Research Projects

• Research on Changing Stratification System and Its Reorganization in Contemporary Japan

  This research project aims to prepare for the 2005 SSM survey through furthering theoretical and methodological consideration about the stratification system in contemporary Japan. For this objective, we reanalyzed the data of past five SSM surveys on the one hand, and conducted a pilot survey with a new data-gathering method on the other hand. In carrying out the former task, KONDO(2005) applied the two-stage least square method to educational attainment of young people in the SSM data, and found that it could be examined with parental income which was estimated indirectly from educational and occupational information of the middle aged people. This examination showed the possibility of the SSM data to be used in the field of economic or political studies of education other than sociology. On the other hand, we conducted a pilot survey to consider methodological improvement of the retrospective survey data like the SSM. Using the method of life history calendar, we interviewed with 449 respondents in three districts of Sendai, Osaka, and Shimane, and made the unique data-sheets consisting of their residential, educational, occupational, and familial career, whose information reached to about 4,000 columns per one person. We utilized this rich data set to improve our understanding of and approaching to the contemporary stratification process. By such an investigation, we found that both contents and strictness of survey data would differ, depending on respondents' consciousness of historical time during the interview. • The Synthetic Study on Education and Practicizing in Social Research

  This research aims at the institutionalization of social researcher and constructing the base of social research by examining the present condition and many problems of social research education in Japan. Japanese Certification Board for Social Resercher made a start by cooperation of three societies, the Japan society of education sociology, the behaviormetric society of Japan and the Japan Sociological Society, in November 2003. This resesarch contributed greatly to the realization of the qualification system of social reseracher at the following four points. 1)We collected volumes of the generalized information of social researches and made a data-archive about the good social research data that is referred to and also released it on the internet (http://srdq.hus.osaka-u.ac.jp/). This archive contain not only the generalized research information collected in conventional databases, but also the tabulation results of the research only with an Internet browser. 2)We made a standard educational program of socail research in order to realize the qualification system of socail researcher. Asking a lot of specialists' opinions and suggestions in social research and taking complement relation between qualitative and quantitative investigation, the standard curriculum was accomplished. 3)An ethical code of social research had not been made. Asking a lot of specialists' opinions and suggestions, we made an ethical code and released them on the site of internet (http://www.soc.nii.a.cjp/jcbsr/). 4)The survey data about socail research practice in university were analyzed. Analyses made the present condition and problem clear and explored the possibility of exteriorizing and collaboration in social research. • Life experience and migration to metropolitan areas from rural areas

  The opinion poll about migration was conducted with about 2000 high school students of Shimane Prefecture. This research explores feelings toward their hometown and ideas about the future which local high school students have. Many questions about school, friends, or family are also in the questionnaire. The purpose of the investigation is to understand the migration from local areas to a big city by analyzing the results of the research. The following findings were discovered. Many students from local areas say, "I want to live in a larger city once in my lifetime." However, they do not say, "I want to live all the time in a larger city." • Study on the social structure and political culture of local communities

  The objective of this research is to probe changes in the social structure and political culture of local communities after ten years. In 1989 we did survey researches on local politicians and its constituent using questionnaires. This time a newly-tried survey on local public servants is added. Some of the findings from the research are as follows: 1. There still exists a disparity between prefecture level politicians and small city level politicians in terms of their socio-economic and educational background. 2. The electoral method referred to as "Chiku-suisen", which means only one candidate is allowed in one electoral district, has almost disappeared. 3. In every level of elections there is a growing number of the people who do not have political parties they strongly support. 4. The lack of knowledge and expertise regarding policy-making ability can be seen more among lower level officials than higher level ones, particularly in large local governmental bodies.   We made the random sampling surveys of sexual victimization containing child sexual abuse on women at an urban community and some rural communities of Kansai area in Japan in 1998〜2000. We used both of a householder mail survey method and an canvasser interview method in each community survey. In this column we will only outline the main points of the informations obtained by statistical analyses of the urban community mail survey that investigated the actual conditions of sexual victimization of 3,012 women at age 18〜54 in Osaka city. The active ratio of responses to this survey is 16.799%. The prevalence of sexual victimization is found 79.6% by the survey. The significant correlations among variables found by statistical analyses of the survey data are : 1.the correlation between sexual victimization and psychological toll, 2.the correlation between the period of occurrence of sexual victimization or the types of perpetrator and subjuctive trauma variable, 3.the correlation between sexual victimization and the symptoms of PTSD, 4.the correlation between psychological toll and the symptoms of PTSD, 5.the correlation between sexual victimization and "negative" life experiences, 6.the correlation between psychological toll or the symptoms of PTSD and "negative" life experiences, and 7.the correlation between the experience of victimization in child-hood and psychological toll or the symptoms of PTSD.The main route of flow of influence presumed from the above correlations is : sexual victimization→psychological toll→symptoms of PTSD→ "negative" life experiences. • 地域生活構造の統計的研究

  厚生省より目的外利用請求した人口動態統計及び,国民生活基礎調査を用いて,次の研究をおこなった。 1. 人口動態統計より自殺の部分を引きぬいて,自殺と季節,自殺とよう日の関係などを分析。これによって,E.デュルケームのいう「自殺の社会活動説」が検証された。 2. 国民生活基礎調査の世帯票を用いて,地域別の家族構成,家族問題の分析をおこなった。これによって特に,過疎地域家族の小家族化,介護問題などが,統計的に示された。, 日本学術振興会, 科学研究費助成事業, 1998 -1998, 特定領域研究(A), 広島県立大学
• 地域生活構造の統計的研究

  (1)本研究は過疎農山村地域の地域・生活問題に三つのアスペクトから接近した。すなわち、1、農村自殺の問題、2、農村家族の問題、3、農村をとりまく都市住民の地域意識の問題、の三つがそれである。1、2に関しては、過疎農山村の生活問題が、3に関しては都市居住者の農村評価が分析の主たる焦点である。用いるデータは、1では厚生省の人口動態統計、2では同じく厚生省の国民生活基礎調査、3では経済企画庁の国民生活選好度調査(平成3年度、東京・大阪の魅力、地方の魅力)となっている。 ただし、このうちミクロデータを利用できたのは、3の国民生活選好度調査のみである。その他の二つのデータは利用申請手続きの最終段階にある。したがって1と2の問題には、既存の公刊されたデータのみでアプローチをしたに留まる。また国民生活選好度調査の分析も、今後さらなる分析が予定されている。 (2)さらに(1)に付属する標本調査を宮崎県串間市と大分県日田郡中津江村で実施した。串間市では地域開発(特に原発立地問題)の諸問題が、中津江村では人口還流や地域意識の問題が分析された。, 日本学術振興会, 科学研究費助成事業, 1996 -1996, 重点領域研究, 下関市立大学
• 原子力発電所をめぐる社会学的問題の研究

  当初より、本研究は、第1に原発問題をとらえる枠組みの構成、第2に島根原発をめぐる地域問題の分析、という2つの課題を設定していた。研究ではまず第1の課題を達成するため、(1)関連の先行業績を検討するとともに、(2)全国紙における原発関連の記事を収集し、また(3)世論関係の資料を収集することによって、原発問題をとらえる基本的な枠組みを構成した。そこで明らかになったことは、原発問題をとらえる際には、社会学の各分野のうち、社会問題論、社会運動論、生活構造論という3つの分野からのアプローチが有用であり、それらを総合した視点が必要であるということである。同時にまた意思決定の過程についての考察が重要であり、政治社会学的な観点からの接近も欠くことはできないということも明らかになった。 第2の研究課題である、島根原発の研究は、これら4つの研究分野(政治社会学、社会問題論、社会運動論、生活構造論)との関連で進められていった。具体的には、政治社会学の枠組みをもとに地域政治における意思決定のありようを探るため、地方政治家や議会議事についてのデータが収集された。社会問題論との関連では反原発団体の活動を、主として地方紙を中心に検討した。原発問題をどう考えるかということにかんしては、住民全体が決して一様な意見を保持しているわけではない。商工会と漁民の見解の相違などは顕著なものであるが、そこには当事者の生活のありようが反映している。そして、生活は地域の長い歴史と関連している。したがって、原発所在地である鹿島町の歴史について考察することも重要であると判断し、資料収集を試みた。以上の基礎的な資料をもとに、今後さらに分析を進めていく予定である。, 日本学術振興会, 科学研究費助成事業, 1994 -1994, 奨励研究(A), 奈良女子大学
• 情報化にともなうライフチャンスの構造とライフスタイル

  情報化の進行は各種の情報メディアの布置状況を変化させ、したがってまた諸領域における資源的メディアの布置と流れをも変えた。INSに代表されるニュー・メディア・ネットワークが世界的なスケールで人びとの生活を変えつつある。そのなかで,たとえば,消費生活における資源の流通規模の拡大と財パターンの多様化は顕著であるし,その決済方式としてのカード化の進行も急ピッチである。「三段の流れ」として捉えられる,今日の情報化のもとでのコミュニケーション構造と過程は、産業構造にインパクトを与え,人びとの職業構造に変化をもたらしたし、人間関係にも次第に変更を求めつつある。こうして人びとの生活システムは社会変動と対応しながら変化せざるを得ないし、その選択肢も新たなパターンを付加されつつある。当然、その時・空的な秩序像としての生活構造も変化している。この生活システムの原理的な傾向として把握されるライフスタイルも多様化し、その主要なパターンに変化が生じつつある。その基本軸は手段的価値基準から具現的価値基準の方向へのシフト傾向をみせている。それはポスト産業社会のそれに対応する高度大衆消費社会の一般傾向と合致する方向である。このような価値づけは、単に生活主体の主観的な意味づけや願望レベルの事実ではなく,社会の構造的な基軸である(1)地位構造(とくに,性と世代による地位および成層的地位)に応じて,また(2)コミュニティと集団の構造に応じて,人びとが自己の生活システムを通してどのようなチャンスを獲得しようとしているのか、また実際に何を実現できるか,という両面でのライフチャンスによって規定されていることが社会学的に重要な点である。, 日本学術振興会, 科学研究費助成事業, 1993 -1993, 一般研究(B), 奈良女子大学
