, Japan Society for the Promotion of Science, Grants-in-Aid for Scientific Research Grant-in-Aid for Scientific Research (C), 2021/04 -2024/03, Grant-in-Aid for Scientific Research (C), Doshisha University
    • A Study on the Narratives of Assistant Language Teachers and the Transformation in Their Identities: Socio-Cultural and Linguistic Perspectives

The overall aim of this research was to clarify the identity transformation of Assistant Language Teachers (ALTs) on the basis of narrative research. In English education in Japan, ALTs have realized communicative classroom development. However, while some ALTs have adapted to their schools and have been teaching for a substantial period, others have decided to retire in the middle of their careers. To explore their inner selves, this study (1) analyzed ALT interviews to discover how they have positioned themselves in the new environment of English education in Japan and how they have been transformed. (2) a new approach to narrative research was attempted with ALTs who are uniquely positioned as language teachers. By integrating sociocultural, stylistic, and narrative analyses of their narratives, we were able to examine their identity transformation and growth to gain a deeper understanding of ALTs and help improve the quality of their English classes., Japan Society for the Promotion of Science, Grants-in-Aid for Scientific Research, 2018/04 -2022/03, Grant-in-Aid for Scientific Research (C), Okayama University of Science

The Japan Exchange and Teaching Programによって, 多くの英語母語話者がAssistant Language Teacher (ALT)として日本に招致され, 公立学校では, ALTとJTE (日本人英語教師)によるティームティーチングの授業が可能となった。 , Japan Society for the Promotion of Science, Grants-in-Aid for Scientific Research Grant-in-Aid for Encouragement of Scientists, 2014/04 -2015/03, Grant-in-Aid for Encouragement of Scientists, The Junior High School of University of Hyogo

The present study aimed to analyze English language teachers' narratives and to trace the process of their professional development. Teachers' experiences in the classroom, including "critical events", were articulated as a written narrative form and archived and shared in their e-portfolios. The narrative data were then qualitatively analyzed based on Sociocultural Theory. The result revealed the ways in which the teachers interpreted their experiences. It was also suggested that the dialogic process among the participants including teachers and teacher educators had made a significant contribution to teacher's professional development., Japan Society for the Promotion of Science, Grants-in-Aid for Scientific Research, 2009 -2011, Grant-in-Aid for Scientific Research (C), Hyogo University of Teacher Education
