本研究は，世代間の相互関係について，理論的な考察や国内外のミクロ・マクロデータを用いて実証分析を行い，得られた結果から相続税や贈与税などといった税制や介護関連の制度における政策インプリケーションを提示するプロジェクトである．具体的には以下の4つの問いに答えることを目的とする：A）遺産動機が親・子の労働供給や貯蓄にどのような影響を与えるのか，B）高齢期に選好パラメータは変化するのか，またその変化により退職前後の消費・貯蓄の変化を説明できるのか，C）親への介護が子の労働供給・離職タイミング・出産にどのような影響を与えるのか，D）Brodersen et al. Wakabayashi and Kureishi analyzed the impact of parental caregiving on their health. They had their analysis published in the Review of Development Economics, and they analyzed marital commitment devices and had their analysis published in the Singapore Economic Review. They have also published child poverty in the Social Security Research. Kajitani investigated the effect of sleep on labor productivity and published his analysis in Economics and Human Biology. This research project examined the causal impact of the duration of retirement on the cognitive functioning of male elderly workers in Japan using data from the National Survey of Japanese Elderly. We also explored how the complexity of a worker's longest served job affects cognitive functioning after retirement. Our empirical evidence suggests that the duration of retirement has a negative and significant impact on cognitive functioning. Moreover, among the eight dimensions of job characteristics, high complexity in the job’s relation to data is found to be an important job characteristic in delaying the deterioration of cognitive functioning after retirement. Furthermore, we examined the causal impact of working hours on the cognitive ability and health of people living in Australia aged 40 years and older. 経済学の分析においては，経済主体が持ち得る全時間のうち労働時間以外の時間をすべて余暇とするのが一般的であり，余暇時間の中身に注目することは非常に限られている．しかしながら，余暇時間のうち何らかの生産に使用する時間を取り出して分析すれば，個人の行動をうまく表現できる可能性がある． 本研究では，余暇のうち積極的に活動した時間に注目し，睡眠時間やスポーツ時間，社会活動時間などの時間量や時間帯が個人の生産性や健康資本に与える影響を実証分析する．具体的には，時間の量（どのぐらい）と時間帯（いつ）のふたつの側面から（1）睡眠時間，スポーツ時間，社会活動時間などの生活行動時間量が個人の生産性・健康資本に与える影響と，（2）睡眠時間，スポーツ時間，社会活動などの生活行動時間帯が個人の生産性・健康資本に与える影響とをそれぞれ実証分析する．, 日本学術振興会, 若手研究（B）, 2015, Principal investigator, Competitive research funding - An empirical study of causes and consequences of disparities in education, income and health among young working population with an emphasis on their time-use

This study examined the causes and the consequences of disparities in human capital, income and health with special emphasis on time-use, and found the following results. Unemployment affects mental health, exercise habit and sleep duration. Time-use in college years has some influence on transition from non-regular to regular employment in later life. Experiencing part-time jobs during college has positive influence for all, and time spent on companionship has positive influence among men. With regard to the relationship between human capital of women and time-use, for various reasons commuting time is shorter among low- and high-paid women compared to middle-paid women. After abolition of regulations on late-night and holiday work by women in 1999, middle-aged and older regular workers and young non-regular workers increased working hours. In this research, we analyzed the determinants of household behaviors considering each family member (for example, labor supply, parent-child co-residence, financial assistance and care of parents by their children, etc.). We constructed theoretical models and discussed derived hypotheses using Japanese micro data. We examine the impacts of the working hours of elderly Japanese men on their health outcome, taking into account an endogeneity between work and health.
