  初年度である2020年度は、活動が実際に可能となったのが2021年1月であっため、研究方針を示す第一回ワークショップ「イスラーム文明的国家体系の解明にむけて」を2月18日に開催、3月5日のイスラーム信頼学キックオフシンポジウムにおいても、代表者の近藤が「宗派的分断を乗り越える戦略知：外交，戦争，イスラーム法」という題で報告を行った。さらに、3月24日にはワークショップ「条約体制と国際法」を開催し、分担者の堀井が「近世前半期オスマン・ヴェネツィア条約体制の規範構造」、分担者の沖が「19世紀のエジプトにおける近代国際法の受容」という題で報告を行った。近代以前のムスリム諸国とヨーロッパ諸国の間の「条約（アフド・ナーメ）」がどのようなものであったか、19世紀においてムスリム諸国がどのように新しい西洋の国際法を受容したかが論じられた。これらの報告により、条約や外交を基礎にイスラーム文明のコネクティビティを考察するというプロジェクトの基本スタイルが確立した。これ以外に、イスラーム信頼学の計画研究班C01と共催のワークショップを4回、A01班との共催のワークショップを1回開催し、また、総括班主催の国際シンポジウムの構想を立案することで、イスラーム信頼学プロジェクト全体に貢献した。 コロナ禍により予定していた海外調査がほとんどできず、唯一、繰越金により2021年度末に短期間トルコで行ったのみであった。研究文献はもっぱらデジタルライブラリーと海外からの購入を中心に収集した。, Japan Society for the Promotion of Science, Grants-in-Aid for Scientific Research, 2020/11 -2025/03, Grant-in-Aid for Transformative Research Areas (A), Tokyo University of Foreign Studies
• The Developed Study of the Mediterranean History in the Middle Ages and in the Early Modern: the Wider Intercourse and its Total Structure in the Age of Globalization

  The eleven members of this historical research project, that are composed of both the specialist of the occidental history and of the oriental history, reconsidered the wider intercourse and its total structure in the medieval and early modern Mediterranean history. With the collaboration with foreign historians, each scholar noticed the political, economic, religious, or social aspects that the Muslim in Arab, Maghreb, and Turk, the Byzantine, the Catholic, the Jews or other people in this area were confronting and facing each other in all the area in the Mediterranean in the age of globalization. Through this project the members shared the wider historical viewpoints without prejudice and could get high skill for the historiography beyond the frame of ‘national history’. The members published a book including all the members’ articles as the result of each research. • A Research on Civic Attitudes to Crisis in the Mediterranean World and their Global Network.

  We investigated civic attitudes and reactions to social or/and economic crisis recently occurred in Egypt and Greece. Both crisis had heavily influenced not only domestic economy but also each habitants’ daily lives. We have conducted a fact-finding study by interview to informants and their friends and could collect relevant voices and episodes. Finding some typical patterns, we compared our results with official statistics data of the government.   In accordance with our original plan, we organized a number of international workshops over three consecutive years. In total, 14 renowned foreign historians were invited to these events. As the result, we succeeded in studying inter-religious and inter-confessional relationships between different Christian denominations, Islam, and Judaism from a comparative historical viewpoint and within a broad context. • Comparative Study of the Maritime Regions

  This research reveals various aspects of cross-cultural exchanges in the Indian Ocean and Mediterranean maritime worlds and plays an important role for the whole research project by providing to it concrete examples and useful comments related to the history of East Asian maritime world. We organized a voluntary study group on the history of East Asian maritime world with researchers from other research groups. Regarding the East Asian maritime world as ground of experiment, we have analyzed its past from various different viewpoints and have made synthesis. • The Basic Study for the Construction of Political and Social Data Base of the Middle Eastern Core Area

  This study aims at conducting basic researches for the construction of political and social data bases of the Middle Eastern Core Area. The Middle Eastern Core Area means a historical core area consisting of Egypt, Turkey and the Greater Syria (Syria, Lebanon, Jordan, and Palestine). We selected suitable documents for database formation from basic juridical, administrative and parliamentary documents such as official gazettes, statute books, parliament records, and government almanacs, et.al., focusing on modern Egypt and the Ottoman Empire that included both Turkey and the Greater Syria, and tried to input necessary information of key words in these documents by using their indices and other research sources. Main results of our study are the formation of data base of index of laws and regulations in the Statute Book of the Ottoman Empire (Duster) and the formation of data base Parliament Records in Monarchical Egypt (madhabit mails al-nuwwab and madhabit mails al-shuyukh)and its publication on website.
