• Chiasmus of Aesthetics and Rhetoric

  This research-project aims to clarify the relationships between Aesthetics and Rhetoric, focusing on the concept of common sense on the on hand, on the terminologies such as ecphrasis, imagination and fancy on the other hand. Before foundation of Aesthetics by Baumgarten, Wolff separated Logics from Rhetoric, while anti-Wolff tried to make Rhetoric a field of Logics and philosophy. Edgar Allan Poe and Stephane Mallard did not think that words signify substances, but that words signify nothing. • From Rhetoric to Aesthetic : influence of ancient rhetoric upon birth of aesthetic

  Before founding Aesthetics, modern concept of arts had been formed under the influence of the ancient rhetoric. Ekphrais, which is the description of works of art, derived from the ancient rhetorical exercise, and the concept of artists' imitating the idea was changed from Cicero' concept of the ideal rhetorician. Aesthetics was also founded under the influence of the rhetoric. Six Qualities, which give the completeness of the cognition, are similar to the clarification of argumentation of the 17th-century,not ancient, rhetoric. • WORDS FOR DESIGN-Comparative Etymology and Terminology of Design and its Equivalents

  Today, the English word 'design' is used all over the world. However, while 'design' has become international and very wide in its meaning, the nuance that once existed within each culture's equivalent of 'design' are disappearing, as the indigenous terms are improperly reinterpreted as translations of 'design.' The aim of this study is to trace the genealogy of 'design' and its equivalents all over the world and to compare their meanings and usages. • Formation of the ancient Roman rhetoric and its development

  Roman rhetoricians, such as Cicero and Quintilianus, inherited the theory of rhetoric which was founded by Aristotle' "Rhetorica". In the 18^, Baumgarten reformed the Aristotelian theory of rhetoric with the result that Greek and Roman rhetoric was absorbed into aesthetics.
