Research Projects

• Educational Reconstruction in Postwar Japan and Japanese American Christianity

  竹本は、戦後日本において、東京日本語学校をはじめとして宣教師の日本語学校の設立に重要な働きをしたのは、FMCNA六人委員会の委員、そして内外協力会（CoC）やIBCの現地委員会のセクレタリーを担ったダーリー・ダウンズであったこと、戦前の日語文化学校の校長であり、戦後の日本にFMCNAの宣教活動の方針を日本の状況と調整しながら日本語学校を再興していったことなどから、日米双方の資料からダウンズの意図を明らかにした。 田中は、京都大学大学文書館に預けられている有賀鐵太郎の資料より、敗戦以後、約１年半の活動について、戦後同志社、アメリカ公人との関係、他校とのつながり、プロテスタント界、日常（文筆・講演・農村活動）、他宗教との親交などの視点から分析した。 高橋は、第二次世界大戦前の日系二世の越境教育（日本留学）や仏教青年会運動の展開において、中心的な役割を果たした常光浩然の戦後の諸活動のうち、とくに国際的な平和運動および仏教振興運動への関与について考察を行った。 吉田は、アメリカプロテスタントによる戦時下日系アメリカ人再定住・統合活動と戦後期日本プロテスタント再建活動との影響関係について、「自主性」を鍵として、アメリカプロテスタントは戦後の反人種主義・反帝国主義実践として、脱パターナリズム、被伝道者の人権・自主性の最重要視、公平・公正性の保障、民主主義の徹底、協力推進という日系人の統合事業が提起した課題を日本伝道再開という具体的な実践の中でどのように克服したのかについて、日米双方の資料から、1945年～1947年の実態について解明した。 物部は、太平洋戦争中、ハワイ日本人捕虜収容所の所長として活躍した、同志社大学教授オーテス・ケーリの活動や思想について、主に戦前、戦中の経験に焦点を当てることにより、それらが、太平洋戦争期を通じ、どのような連続性をもっていたかについて考察を行った。, Japan Society for the Promotion of Science, Grants-in-Aid for Scientific Research, 2019/04 -2023/03, Grant-in-Aid for Scientific Research (C), Doshisha University
