• 山片蟠桃の経済理論とその政策論の再検討

  2019年度は、研究代表者と分担者を中心に、合計４回の研究会（4月25日、5月16日、6月3日、10月15日）を行った。当初予定では、蟠桃の著作（主に「夢之代」）および関連する同時代の文献（中井竹山「草芽危言」、太宰春台「経済録」）の読解と読み合わせであったが、それらを最小限のとどめて、研究打合せの中心的内容を大坂米市場における鞘寄せに関する議論に変更し、そのメカニズムの解明に注力した。第４回研究会では、神戸大学経済経営研究所の神谷和也教授を招聘し、分担者がこれまでの概略を説明し、そのあとで現在までの暫定的なアイデアを代表者が簡単に説明した。神谷教授からはこの問題についての意見（サンスポット均衡による鞘寄せの可能性）をいただいた。しかしながら、このメカニズムを決定づける理論の導出までには至らなかった。 一方で、研究代表者による先行研究の調査（日本大学山倉和紀教授の論文を通じて）において、同時代の西欧経済学者のなかに情報効率性の先駆的貢献をなしたとみなされる人物がいることを知った。具体的には、19世紀初頭のイギリスの経済学者ローダーデールがアイルランド銀行の株価とその配当率の推移のデータを示し、当該銀行の過剰発行による銀行券の減価が株式市場の情報効率性によって同行の株価に即座に反映されることを論証しているというものであった。, Japan Society for the Promotion of Science, Grants-in-Aid for Scientific Research Grant-in-Aid for Scientific Research (C), 2019/04 -2022/03, Principal investigator, Grant-in-Aid for Scientific Research (C), Doshisha University
• The Malthus–Ricardo debate and the development of classical political economy

  ①本研究の遂行に必要な文献や資料を収集するとともに、国内外の研究者との国際共同研究のネットワークづくりに取り組んだ。 ②トマス・ロバート・マルサスの『人口論』と経済学の各言語圏（英語圏・フランス語圏・スペイン語圏・ポルトガル語圏とイタリア・ロシアおよび日本）への伝播とその受容の特色を明らかにするために開催した国際会議（2018年9月）の成果をとりまとめ、Gilbert Faccarello, Masashi Izumo and Hiromi Morishita (eds), Malthus Across Nations: The Reception of Thomas Robert Malthus in Europe, America and Japan (Edward Elgar)を2020年４月に刊行した。欧米ではマルサスの人口論と経済理論の両方がほぼ同時代に受容されたのに対して、日本ではそれから50年ほど遅れて、1868年の明治維新以降に西洋の経済学が一斉に導入される過程で受容されたこと、また、第一次大戦までは人口論が移民論や社会問題に関連づけられながら論じられた点に特徴があること、を明らかにした。さらに、マルサスの人口論は、イギリスではディケンズ、フランスではゾラ、日本では柴四朗や坪内逍遙など、各国の代表的な文学にも登場し、多様な経路をとおして社会に浸透していたことを示した。 ③新型コロナウイルスの世界的感染拡大により、2019年度末から2021年度にわたって開催を予定していた国際会議を中止・延期しなければならなくなったため、国際共同研究にもとづく研究成果のとりまとめは遅延することとなった。 ④個別の研究成果の公表は、コロナ禍のなか、海外研究者が編集する英文論集や日本での研究書の出版、学術論文および学会・研究会の発表などによってすすめられた。, Japan Society for the Promotion of Science, Grants-in-Aid for Scientific Research Grant-in-Aid for Scientific Research (A), 2017/04 -2022/03, Coinvestigator, Grant-in-Aid for Scientific Research (A), Kanagawa University
• Henry Thornton and Classical Monetary Theory: New Study in their Possibilities and in their Influence on Contemporary Monetary Economics

  2019年度における研究は、新型コロナウィルスによる感染症の世界的蔓延が明らかになるまでの4月～翌2020年1月までは、研究代表者・研究分担者・研究協力者のあいだで支障なく進捗していたといえる。 研究代表者は2019年6月には本研究の主題について学会報告を行ない（経済学史学会第83回大会）、また研究分担者も別記研究実績にある通り学会報告などを活発に行っていた。また論文発表も、研究代表者・分担者共に、2019～2020年にかけては一定の進捗がみられていた。 また、海外研究協力者たちも、本プロジェクトとの連携を特に記した論文を、European Journal of the History of Economic Thought誌（2020年）や、Cambridge Journal of Economics誌（2021年）などに公刊し、本研究プロジェクトの国際的認知度は確実に高まっていたといえる。研究代表者は、本科研費による研究成果であることを特に記した英語論文を、M.C. Marcuzzo, G. Deleplace and P. Paesani (eds.) • Robert Torrens' Theory of Economic Policy: International Trade and Colonization

  This study showed that Torrens’ theory of economic growth was characterized by the Ricardian model of dynamic equilibrium growth, and that he was one of the creators of the Ricardian model of international trade and his discussions on trade might be involved in reconsidering Ricardo’s original theory of trade. The debate over trade policy between Torrens and his antagonists was outlined in the first joint research. • The Economics of Robert Torrens: Later Developments of the Ricardian Economics

  Despite his occasional criticism of Ricardo’s principles of political economy, Torrens would accept and incorporate them into his own economic theories. His interpretation of Ricardo, however, was sometimes different from the author’s intended meaning. Torrens’ claims on international trade, including comparative advantage and gains from trade, caught the attention of J. S. Mill and other famous twentieth century economists, who debated on the matter of who would be the true father of comparative advantage: Ricardo or Torrens? • A Study on Disclosure of Information and Decision Usefulness in Stock Market

  We employ an analysis using dynamic panel models. The obtained results indicate as follows. (1) In both Japan and the US, the disclosure of information has a positive effect on the values of firms which are estimated by their stock prices and there is no significant difference between the countries in the effects. (2) The disclosed information of environmental risks may increase the values of firms: it is thus confirmed that such environmental information has the value as information.   We held international conferences and workshops on David Ricardo, with over 40 overseas researchers from 15 countries, 20 times in total within the past 5 years. We clarified the modernity of Ricardo in the history of economic thought and his impact on economics, while building an international network of joint research.
