  • Memories of a Place in Cinematography

    This Research aims to analyse how memories of a place are (re)presented in cinematographic works. The Interviews with the filmmakers such as Jean-Claude Rousseau, Dominique Auvray, Peter Nestler, Rudolf Thome, Klaus Wyborny, Rainer Komers tell us what is happening at the Front line of the cinematographic art.   • Russian Emigrants Contribution to the Construction of the Image of "Russia" in the World Music, Theatre and Film

    Our study of the image of≪Russia≫constructed with the contribution of Russian Emigrants in Japan, France, Germany, Czechoslovakia, Great Britain and the US in the 1920-50s made clear that : 1) the great number of Russian emigrants was engaged in artistic professions and chose non-verbal arts which helped to construct the image of≪Russia≫as the country of music, ballet and theatre ; 2) the orientalist trend of the Russian modernism in the beginning of the 20-th century and the image of Russia as the oriental country promoted by Dyagilev's≪Russian Seasons≫, fascinated Europe and was later adopted in the arts of Russian emigrants., Japan Society for the Promotion of Science, Grants-in-Aid for Scientific Research, 2008 -2011, Grant-in-Aid for Scientific Research (B), Doshisha University
  • On the Motif of "Double" in Literature and Visual Arts

    本研究は、文学作品ではナボコフの小説『絶望』、ドストエフスキイの小説『おかしな男の夢』、マラルメの『イジチュール』、中国の『紅楼夢』を、映像関係ではアレクセイ・ゲルマンなど50年代のソ連社会を舞台とした近年のロシア映画、エイゼンシュテインの映画理論、30年代から50年代のドイツ映画と親近性をもつ近いマキノ雅弘作品などを主たる分析対象として、各研究者がそれぞれの分野で、「二重世界」、「二重文化性」、「二重の知覚」といった二重性を生きる分身的主体のあり方について考察したものである。ここで分身的主体とは、ジギルとハイドのような<病的>現象としてではなく、あれでもありこれでもあるという複数的存在様態を肯定してゆく創造的エネルギーを備えたものとして捉えられている。あれかこれかという単一的世界像の見直しを促すこのような分身テーマは、複製技術時代における文学と思想と映像の相互関係を理解する上できわめて有効な手掛かりとなりうるものである。, Japan Society for the Promotion of Science, Grants-in-Aid for Scientific Research, 2006 -2008, Grant-in-Aid for Scientific Research (B), Doshisha University
  • The historic significance of the German and Slavic culture contact in Germany between World Wars

    Four investigators set the following study theme : 1.The in Germany of the Weimar Republic times 2.The activity of exiled Russian in Berlin and their literary works 3.Jewish problems in Germany of the Weimar times 4.The interrelation of Germany and Russia in filmmaking techniques As a result of investigation, they reached the following conclusion. 1.The in Germany of the Weimar Republic times has its origin in 1906. At that time D.Merezhkovsky and Moeller van den Bruck played an intermediary role in introducing the to Germany. 2.For exiled Russians, particularly for V.Nabokov, Berlin was the ground of living in peace. In writing one of his novels Nabokov wrote two (Russian and English) versions to make it more distinct . 3.For Jewish people Weimar times were the climax of a change to aim at "assimilation". It was the times when anti-Semitism and Zionism added to intensity still more, too. It was as a fictional mental community that Jewish people in those days assumed to be a base of their own identity. 4.By analyzing the detail of German movies from Weimar period to World War II we can find one directionality which can be named .
